This request according to Barrister Wike, is borne out of the fact that Governor Amaechi has contributed immensely to the economic development of the State and the country in general and in view of his administration’s landmark achievements which speak for themselves.

“Boko Haram is funded through CBN” – Australian Hostage Negotiator

A large chunk of the finances of Boko Haram may be passing through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), an Australian with close links to the militant group has told TheCable.

Dr Stephen Davis, who was in Nigeria for four months trying to negotiate with Boko Haram to release the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, said Boko Haram commanders told him a senior CBN official, who cannot be named by TheCable for legal reasons, was fully involved in the funding of the insurgency.

Davis, who spoke with TheCable on phone from Australia in his first interview with a Nigerian journalist, said Western countries could not trace the majority of the source of funding to Boko Haram because “it is done through a legal channel, through the gatekeeper, the CBN, and that makes it very easy to cover up”.

Video: Everton 3-6 Chelsea

Diego Costa bookended an extraordinary end-to-end contest at Goodison Park with goals in the first and last minute to help Chelsea see off Everton and claim a thrilling 6-3 victory and maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season. In a match that will live long in the memory thanks to goals, officiating errors and physical confrontations aplenty, Everton three times reduced a two-goal deficit to one as they time and again threatened to make spectacular comebacks. But each time they did, Chelsea found another gear to extend their advantage once more. Even after Ramires scored to make it 5-3 with 13 minutes remaining at the end of an extraordinary 10 minute spell that featured four goals, it took a spectacular save from Thibaut Courtois to turn a Kevin Mirallas shot onto the post and prevent even greater drama late on.

Costa’s late goal added an emphatic sheen to the victory that was perhaps harsh on the hosts after such a spirited performance.

Dora Akunyili all the way

I have struggled with writing a befitting piece for Dora Akunyili since her cruel demise. And this is why. In the less than six months that I worked closely with her in Abuja at the Ministry of information and Communications, I was unable to come to terms with her undying belief that Nigeria was still the greatest country in the world. For her, no country had all of God's blessings together in one piece like Nigeria. Nigeria, to her, had the ingredients to attain greatness. It was only a matter of time.

If I shared her faith, I could not share her optimism about Nigeria. Where she saw greatness, I saw something different. Where she saw hope for a better country, I saw a bleak future. But no one could stop her or change her passion for Nigeria. Consummate in her endeavors and committed to achieving set goals, Dora Akunyili had no comparison. Even from a distance, one could sense her commitment and share In her dream.
